Herniated Disc Treatments

If you think you’re dealing with a herniated disc and live in or near Omaha, NE, come work with Dr. Brian Stevens at the Benson Chiropractic Clinic. A herniated disc is a painful condition that can limit your mobility and cause problems throughout life. Unfortunately, herniated discs rarely heal or improve without outside intervention. The good news is that a chiropractor can provide non-invasive treatment that offers pain relief.

A Quick Look at the Anatomy of the Spine and a Herniated Disc

The spine is made up of small bones called vertebrae. These vertebrae protect your spinal cord, which is the bundle of nerves and other tissues that form the primary roadway of your central nervous system. The vertebrae are very strong, but they can also bend and move. As the vertebrae move, they’re at risk of generating friction, which can cause painful wear and tear.

Fortunately, between the vertebrae, you will find soft discs that are made of gel-like material. There are two parts to these discs: a rubbery, tough outer layer called the annulus fibrosus, and a softer, more sensitive nucleus pulposus. These discs act as a cushion and space out the vertebrae.

If the discs are torn or damaged, the nucleus may bulge outward. When the spine moves and pressure is put on the damaged disc, it can impinge nearby tissues, including muscles and the roots of nerves emerging from the spinal cord. This painful condition, as you may have guessed, is a herniated disc, which may also be called a ruptured or slipped disc.

If you have any questions about spinal anatomy or want to discuss treatment for a herniated disc in Omaha, NE, get in touch with Dr. Stevens at Benson Chiropractic Clinic.

Chiropractors Can Treat Herniated Discs

Since the problem with a herniated disc is that tissue is out of place, this often won’t go away with rest. Chiropractors can provide treatments that help the spine return to proper alignment and relieve pressure on the affected discs.

Chiropractic adjustments can help ensure that the spinal cord is in good alignment. There are also treatments for reducing inflammation in affected soft tissues. Do you need help with a herniated disc in Omaha, NE? If so, call 402-553-1900 to reach the Benson Chiropractic Clinic. Dr. Stevens can provide a variety of effective treatments.
